Bensalem Emergency Medical Services

The Bensalem Rescue Squad was established in 1980 to provide emergency medical care to the community. Today, the Bensalem Rescue Squad is known as Bensalem E.M.S. The Bensalem E.M.S. has grown into a major organization in Bucks County's emergency health services. The Squad owns five Advanced Life Support Units, and staffs two of these 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

Bensalem E.M.S. is proud to serve the residents of Bensalem Township. The rescue squad responds to an average of 5,000 calls per year. That's about 12 emergencies each day. The Squad plays in integral role in community education on issues of health and safety.

Bensalem E.M.S. performs over 1500 hours of staff training Volunteers spend thousands of hours at the rescue squad Bensalem E.M.S. provides community CPR, Heimlich maneuver and 911 training Instructs Bensalem Police Officers on the use of defibrillators Perform child car safety seat inspections.

In the Fall of 2005, Mayor DiGirolamo, Township Council and the Fire Associations gathered for a press conference where an announcement was made concerning the proposed building of a Emergency Medical Services Training Center in Bensalem, another first for Bensalem and Bucks County. The center will be a state-of-the-art training facility, where police, fire, rescue personnel can train and work together to provide the best service and protection for the utmost in quality of life improvements. Construction is currently underway (2009).
