Mayor's Biography
Upon retiring as Chief Executive Officer of DiGirolamo Farms, Joseph DiGirolamo wanted to give back to the community he loves. He is an extraordinary, successful businessman, who had a vision for improving the quality of life for the people of Bensalem.
His vision has become a reality for the 60,000 people who call Bensalem home. Since being elected Mayor in 1994, the Bensalem community has and continues to experience a renaissance. Vast infrastructure improvements, reduced real estate taxes, new state of the art parks, open space initiatives, transportation system upgrades, just to name a few. His motto of service, service, service, was not just a catchy campaign slogan, it is what his Administration is all about.

Elected 5times to serve as the Mayor of Bensalem Township, population approximately 60,000
Founding Member and Chairman, Bucks County Riverfront Communities Revitalization Study - studying the waterfront throughout Lower Bucks in order to eliminate blight and reclaim the riverfront for aesthetically pleasing and revenue producing development
Founding Member & Past President, Bucks County Transportation Management Association (TMA) - designed to decrease congestion on our roadways by encouraging the use of alternative forms of transportation, and lobbying highway improvement projects,
Founding Member & Chairman, Towns Against Graffiti (TAG) and Towns Against Trash - award winning programs that beautify areas throughout Lower Bucks by removing graffiti and removing roadside debris
Founding Member & Key Leader, Communities that Care (CTC) & Building a Better Bensalem (B3B) -under the CTC umbrella, B3B programs have helped to reduce teen pregnancies, truancy, vandalism, bullying, drug abuse, and other juvenile problems. Recognized and rewarded by former Governors Tom Ridge and Mark Schweiker for the success of the B3B programs.
Founded the Bensalem Economic Development Corporation - to facilitate the development of new businesses and provide additional employment opportunities for Bensalem residents.
Chaired the Bensalem Tricentennial Committee - organized and coordinated “PRIDE DAY 1992”, a series of programs celebrating Bensalem’s 300th birthday. PRIDE DAY was so popular and successful, it has become an annual celebration and continues to this day.
Served on the Bucks County Land Preservation Board - participated in the movement to preserve Bucks County’s heritage of open space and natural beauty.
Founding Member & Primary Sponsor of “Kids at Work”, and “Holiday Happiness”, to create jobs and enhance the holidays for disadvantaged youth.
